how long are lessons?
Before starting consistent lessons, a trial lesson will be offered to make sure everything is a good fit. The length of lessons is dependent on the age, and level of the student, but the three most common lesson times are 30, 45, and 60 minutes. 15-minute lessons are rare, but a perfect length for students who are as young as 3 or 4!
Where are the lessons?
Lessons are held in Christopher's home studio in Rockville.
are cellos provided?
Unfortunately, cellos are not provided for either the Trial Lesson, or weekly lessons. We are lucky to have many incredible instrument shops in the DMV area, including the highly recommend Potter Violins. They provide high-quality instruments, and there is always someone available that will help you find the best cello within your budget, and make sure that it is the correct size.
are there other items needed?
When you rent or buy an instrument, usually three things come in the cello case: a strap endpin anchor, rosin for the bow, and a cleaning cloth. As musicians become more advanced, a mute would be a great addition, as well. Of course, there are variations, and many differing qualities of each item, so if you would like specific recommendations, I would be more than happy to help!
Are there ever concerts?
Yes! Christopher hosts two Solo Recitals every year; one in the Fall, and one in the Spring. He does his best to work with the public school schedule, so that as many students can attend as possible.
